Renowned chef, Maria Loi, of the critically acclaimed restaurant, Loi Estiatorio, in Manhattan, and public media leader GBH announce a brand new, 13-part national public television series, The Life of Loi: Mediterranean Secrets, premiering on December 31st which will usher in the New Year in a fun and healthy way.

Known as the ‘Julia Child of Greece,’ Loi shares thousands of years of knowledge baked into Mediterranean cuisine as she takes viewers across Greece – from Athens to the islands of Naxos and Crete – serving up the secret to making some of the regions’ most authentic dishes.

From the Athens rooftop of the historic Hotel Grande Bretagne that sits in the shadow of the Acropolis, to a boat moored in the Aegean Sea just off Naxos Island, to a mushroom farm on the island of Evia, Loi gives us an insider’s tour of her home country from her own unique perspective.

Presented by American Public Television, the series features Loi at home in New York City at her critically acclaimed restaurant, Loi Estiatorio, joined by a lineup of “fabulous foodie friends” who put their own spin on some tasty dishes inspired by her travels.

“GBH created the genre of cooking programs and is thrilled to continue the legacy with the incomparable Chef Maria Loi,” says GBH Executive Producer Laurie Donnelly. “Maria is one of a kind and is out to change the world one healthy bite at a time. The Life of Loi is living proof why Mediterranean cuisine is not only the healthiest in the world, but the secret ingredient to longevity.”

“In ancient Greek, Dieta (diet) means a way of living – that’s why I want to share my knowledge and passion for the Mediterranean way of life with the world,” says Loi. “I also want to demonstrate to everyone how easy it is to make Greek-Mediterranean cuisine the foundation of your daily diet. A key ingredient in this cuisine is, of course, olive oil – it’s the heart of this diet and an essential part of my daily routine.”

“I am also thrilled to be partnering with GBH, one of the nation’s most accomplished producers of educational and lifestyle content for public media.  Together, we’ll shine a spotlight on a way of living that can truly change peoples’ lives.
